In this post, we’ll explore practical ways to cultivate an abundance mindset through everyday choices, and how you can do this even on a budget.  (There are tips at the end of each of the practical suggestions for budget friendly options.)

What is an Abundance Mindset?

An abundance mindset is all about believing there’s more than enough of everything — love, money, opportunities, and happiness — for everyone.  It’s about seeing the world as full of possibilities, and feeling worthy of receiving the best life has to offer.  When you have an abundance mindset, you feel confident, grateful, and excited for what’s coming next.

On the other hand, a scarcity mindset focuses on lack — feeling like there’s never enough, that you’re always running out of time, money, or resources.  Scarcity can make you feel stuck, stressed, and resentful, always fearing you might not get what you want or need.

Shifting your mindset from scarcity to abundance isn’t just about thinking positively.  It’s about taking small, intentional steps to invite abundance into your life, through your everyday choices.

We provide 5 practical ways to upgrade your abundance mindset – many of which are free, or budget-friendly – although of course you are free to spend more and a go a bit deeper if that feels right for you (and you can afford it comfortably).  (And yes, I’ve done this, and I do feel the difference.  Sometimes the little things can have a big impact over time.)

Why an Abundance Mindset is Better for You Than a Scarcity Mindset

When you live with a scarcity mindset, you often focus on what you don’t have.  This can make you feel anxious, stressed, and unsatisfied.  A scarcity mindset can also lead to self-doubt, because you may feel that you’re never doing enough, or that there’s not enough time, energy, or resources for you to succeed.

In contrast, an abundance mindset is empowering.  It helps you see opportunities, rather than obstacles.  You believe that good things are available to you, and that you deserve them.  You feel worthy of success, love, and happiness, which puts you in a positive, proactive state.

I’ve felt both, and lived with each of them, and I definitely prefer living with an abundant mindset.  And yes, sometimes it takes an effort – but I think it’s so worth it – for your mind, body, and soul. 

Living with an abundance mindset means:

  • You focus on what’s working in your life, which increases your feelings of gratitude.  (This could even be simple things, like shelter, food, and running water.)

  • You’re more open to receiving and creating opportunities because you’re not holding onto fear and limitation.  (If you look around you, and listen to people who are successful and happy, and others who are not happy or positive, you will see the difference – some people focus on the good, and being happy, while other people focus on the negative.)

Practical Ways to Upgrade Your Abundance Mindset

  1. Throw Out Clothes and Items You Don’t Use or Love

This is a game-changer.  When you keep old, worn-out clothes or household items that no longer bring you joy or comfort, you’re subconsciously holding on to a scarcity mindset.  Instead of feeling abundant, you feel stuck with things that don’t make you feel good.  (And if you do wear them, you feel uncomfortable, and unhappy – as if you can’t afford new clothes, or clothes that fit properly, or that you love.)

How to upgrade

  • Toss or donate items that are broken or uncomfortable — like socks with holes, underwear that’s too stretched out, or clothes that pinch, or don’t fit right.
  • Replace them with items you love.  You don’t need to buy new, expensive things to feel abundant — start with something simple like upgrading to a set of soft, luxurious towels, or replacing a worn-out pair of jeans with something that fits better, and feels more comfortable.

Budget tip:  You don’t need to spend a lot of money!  Check out local charity shops, or budget stores for high-quality items at affordable prices.  You can often find gently used, beautiful towels, clothes, and home accessories.  Plus, swapping clothes with friends or hosting a ‘swap party’ can refresh your wardrobe for free!

  1. Invest in Luxurious, Everyday Items You Actually Use

Have you ever used a scratchy towel or worn clothes that don’t fit properly?  It doesn’t feel good, right?  Now think about the last time you used something soft, comfortable, and luxurious — maybe a fluffy towel, or a shirt that made you feel amazing.  That’s what an abundance mindset is about — enjoying the things you use every day, feeling worthy of life’s little pleasures.

How to upgrade

  • Towels, sheets, and bedding - Invest in high-quality towels or bedding that feel soft and cozy.  These little touches can make your home feel more luxurious and abundant.  (And every time you use them, you feel abundant, happy, and confident.)
  • Clothes - Replace clothes that don’t fit or make you feel uncomfortable with pieces that you love.  It doesn’t matter if they’re brand new or secondhand, the key is that they feel right on you.

Budget tip:  Look for sales, clearance racks, or visit discount stores.  You can often find top-quality items at a fraction of the price.  If you're creative, consider doing a swap with friends or family — you bring the items you no longer need, and they bring the items they want to pass on.  It’s a fun way to refresh your wardrobe without spending a dime.

  1. Let Go of Clutter and Surround Yourself with What You Love

A cluttered home can make you feel overwhelmed and stressed, and it’s hard to feel abundant when your space feels chaotic.  By clearing out unnecessary items, and making space for things that bring you joy, you start creating an environment that reflects your abundance mindset.  (You could even sell them, to make some more money to either save, or spend on items that you love instead.)

How to upgrade

  • Declutter your space by letting go of items you no longer use.  If you have things in your home that are broken, outdated, or not bringing you joy, it’s time to release them.
  • Replace clutter with items that bring you happiness.  Maybe it’s a beautiful vase, a comfy chair, or a piece of art you love.

Budget tip:  You don’t have to spend money on new decor.  Repurpose items you already have, or check out thrift stores for unique and affordable finds.  You can even barter with a friend to trade items you don’t need for something they no longer want.

4. Books on Abundance: Simple Reads to Help You Attract Wealth and Prosperity

Sometimes, all it takes to shift your mindset is reading a few pages of a book that opens your eyes to new possibilities.  If you’re looking to cultivate an abundance mindset, there are some classic and easy-to-read books that can guide you in the right direction.    The first two books are classics, and use old-fashioned writing, however the concepts are still great if you can read them.

Book 1. The Richest Man in Babylon by George S. Clason

This timeless classic is packed with practical, simple lessons on how to create and manage wealth.  It’s told through a series of parables set in ancient Babylon, making it easy to follow while still offering solid financial wisdom.  The book teaches concepts like paying yourself first, controlling your expenditures, and investing wisely — ideas that align perfectly with an abundance mindset.  Plus, it’s a short read that doesn’t feel overwhelming, so you can start applying the lessons right away.

Book 2. Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill

Budget tip:  You don’t have to spend money on new books.   You can see what books on abundance are available in your library, or borrow books from friends and family, or even see what is available in charity shops.  The information is the same – it’s just being creative about finding the information.  And if reading while on the train isn’t an option, you might prefer to listen to an audio version.  Libraries often have these available for free as well.

5. Podcasts & Vibrational Frequencies for Abundance: Easy Listening for a Positive Mindset

Podcasts are a fantastic way to absorb new ideas and inspiration on the go.  If you want to keep your abundance mindset strong while multitasking — whether you’re commuting, exercising, or doing household chores — there are several podcasts that can help.  Some are specifically focused on abundance, while others provide general positivity and self-growth.  I’ve mentioned a few of my favourties, however there are others out there as well.  You might like to explore a few, and see which ones appeal to you the most.

Podcast 1. Denise Duffield-Thomas: ‘The Chill and Prosper Podcast’

Denise Duffield-Thomas is a money mindset coach who helps people overcome financial blocks, and embrace their worth.  Her podcast, The Chill and Prosper Podcast, is all about feeling good about money, business, and life in general.  The episodes are short, practical, and full of simple tools to help you attract more abundance and success into your life. Denise’s approachable style makes it easy to get her tips and insights without feeling overwhelmed.  I listen to Denise DT a lot.

Podcast 2. Jamie Sea: ‘The Jamie Sea Show' Podcast

Jamie Sea is a manifestation and mindset coach who teaches her listeners how to align their thoughts and energy with their highest desires.  The Jamie Sea Show dives deep into topics like self-love, creating abundance, and overcoming limiting beliefs.  The episodes are easy to listen to, and Jamie’s calming voice makes it feel like you’re having a conversation with a friend who’s offering you life-changing advice.  I find her podcasts very thought-provoking.

Podcast 3. ‘888 Infinite Abundance Frequency’ Playlist (in Spotify)

If you're looking for something that works on a more energetic level, the Infinite Abundance Frequency is a great option.  This is a sound healing track that you can find on Spotify, which is designed to help you align your energy with abundance.  The soothing frequencies are meant to raise your vibration, and help you attract prosperity and success.  It's easy to play while you work, meditate, or relax at home.  (I love to listen to these whenever the house is noisy, or I’d like to work on my abundance.)

Podcast 4. ‘Align & Attract’ by Kerry Rowett

While this podcast does have a business focus, Kerry also focuses on energetics and healing.  Align & Attract covers topics like ‘Why celebrating your wins changes everything’, ‘Achiving your goals: push vs surrender vs flow’, and and ‘how to support yourself in a season of overwhelm’.  Kerry has a lot of information which can be used to help increase your flow, while also supporting yourself and your mind, body, and soul.  She has a slower talking pace than Denise and Jamie.

Budget tip:  Podcasts are usually available for free.  I use the app ‘pocketcasts’ for my podcasts, and highly recommend it.  And if you don’t have a Spotify account, YouTube has a lot of abundance frequency playlists that you can listen to for free as well.
